CASE STUDY: Simplifying Operations at SONO

SONO, located in the heart of Portside Wharf in Brisbane, offers a Japanese fine dining experience with stunning river views. Known for its exceptional sushi, sashimi, and teppanyaki, the venue has a capacity of approximately 180 diners in one session.

The restaurant has been a staple of the precinct since its opening in March 2007 when the team first installed Triniteq’s WaiterPOS system.

In this case study we discuss the restaurant’s recent transition from their longstanding WaiterPOS system to PowerEPOS, and how this simple change has transformed their operational efficiency.

The Problem

SONO had been using Triniteq's WaiterPOS system since its inception, and while it was heavily customised to suit their needs, the server-based technology was becoming outdated.

With the advancement of cloud technology and the restaurant’s recent move to a cloud-based booking system, it became evident that continuing with a server-based POS was no longer feasible.

The lack of communication between systems and the reliance on outdated technology led to inefficiencies and potential errors, particularly in managing bookings and table allocations.

The Solution

To address these challenges, SONO's team decided to transition to Triniteq’s PowerEPOS POS system. The shift to PowerEPOS was driven by its cloud-based capabilities, which aligned perfectly with SONO’s move to a cloud-based booking system.

The Triniteq installation team provided exceptional support customising PowerEPOS to meet Sono’s specific needs, ensuring a smooth transition.

The integration between PowerEPOS and Sono’s booking system, Now Book It, has been particularly beneficial. This seamless communication between systems has significantly improved the efficiency of managing bookings and table allocations, reducing errors and simplifying operations.

The integration of PowerEPOS with our booking system has made operations much smoother. The team finds it a lot easier now, with everything connected.

We’re really happy with how it’s all working together.”

The Result

The transition to PowerEPOS was a great success and the Triniteq support team were acknowledged for their patience, responsiveness, and dedication throughout the process.

The new system has allowed SONO to combine their POS and booking systems, making it easier for the team to manage operations from a single screen.

The improved communication between systems has also reduced the risk of double bookings and other errors, enhancing the overall dining experience for their guests.

Furthermore, the addition of gift voucher management through Now Book It with redemption at the POS, has simplified the process and increased gift card sales.

The team at SONO found the new system intuitive and easy to use. The back office functionality has also been well-received by the management team, who found the interface familiar and easy to navigate.
